How to use this page

This page has all the syllabus topic content that you will need to complete the required study for IPT. You will find a range of activities called a “folio”. You are required to complete all of these tasks, as they prepare you for the HSC. You are also expected to present your completed work clearly labelled and written up in a workbook to your teacher.

There are due dates displayed with folios. The Assessments details may be found here.

Your work will be completed within the Cloudshare environment, however, an important security issue exists and you are required to ONLY use your school credentials for all online use within Cloudshare or external for example Voki.

The series of YouTubes are important to view as these will present to you visual detail that you may not see in the text. Important additional content is found at the Senior Study site found here

Characteristics of Communication Systems


• communication systems as being those systems which enable users to send and receive data and information
There are five components to a Com Sys, these are the data source, the transmitter, the transmission medium, the receiver and the destination.

A Communication Systems should be able to deliver information quickly, reliably, accurately and securely. The means to send and receive should be hardware and software that is reliable, economical and accessible.

Protocols, transmission speeds and handshaking along with error checking methods are required for a Com Sys to operate effectively.
